Spelling- Student Screen
In the Teaching-Engine, spelling has become an extremely useful and effective adjunct to reading. The spelling lessons are intended to be closely linked to the reading text and each supports the other.
Correct spelling requires a close knowledge of the exact letters which make up a word, so knowing how to spell a word correctly should mean that the word will be very accurately read.
The default settings for spelling are that for the higher grades, the letter names are heard and the longer words are broken up into syllables. For grades 2 and 3, when the words are broken up into syllables, the phonic sound for the syllables are heard. For grade 1 the words are broken up with the phonic sounds heard for each individual letter. Any of these settings can be changed.
